Hello River
Developed by +/&, Hello River creates an engagement with the river through button-operated speakers that play live sounds captured dynamically and in real-time from underwater.
Over time, it allows visitors to learn the river’s “language.”
A simple meter indicates the sound level and provides a visual cue of the current flow rate.
“Hello, river. How are you?”

Shoreline Signals
Entirely new to the Des Moines metro, this regionally collaborative public art initiative uses art to demonstrate water safety to users of recreational water-trail access points as part of the ambitious Central Iowa Water Trails Initiative. Shoreline Signals is proud to be supported in its early stages by multiple grants written by Group Creative Services. We are particularly excited by an award of $125,000 through the National Endowments for the Arts Our Town grant and also by an Iowa Arts Council project grant. “NEA funding is a huge endorsement for this project which advances regional cultural priorities,” said Sally Dix, Executive Director of Bravo Greater Des Moines.
As the ambitious Central Iowa Water Trails transforms up to 86 water access sites along 150 miles of waterways in Central Iowa it will also develop a public art installation that beckons to trail users to enjoy the water and its edge while also presenting water conditions. “Shoreline Signals” will visually and conceptually connect the waterways in the area.
