Indianola - Buxton Corridor Proposals
Group Creatives worked with various stakeholders in the community of Indianola, IA, including their Hometown Pride organization, to develop an RFP and solicit proposals from artist collectives for a series of projects in a two-block span of town known as the Buxton Corridor.
Indianola is home to the Des Moines Metro Opera, Simpson University, and a vibrant town square filled with local businesses. The Buxton Corridor links all of these things together and the art proposed is intended to engage this corridor and encourage people to explore this area of town.
Vision
The high-level vision is for public art in the corridor to encourage students on Simpson College’s campus to walk downtown and get people visiting the town square to visit Simpson College’s campus with its lovely park-like setting.
In addition to encoring the 2 1/2 block between Simpson College and downtown Indianola, there is also interest in using the art to tell the story of Indianola with a focus on several key cultural elements, including Hot Air Balloons, Music (The Des Moines Metro Opera), and Simpson College.
