Grimes, IA - Allegiant Sentinels by Karl Unnasch
A memorial to the branches of the military integrated into an outdoor amphitheater adjacent to a new public library and multi-use paved path.
The Opportunity
Design a public art memorial to the branches of the military integrated into an outdoor amphitheater adjacent to a new public library and multi-use paved path. As part of a park development around a new library being built, The City of Grimes will be integrating a small outdoor amphitheater that looks out over a pond along a multi-use paved path. In front the amphitheater seating there will be a stage that extends out over the water and doubles as a fishing dock when not in use by community programming. Use for the amphitheater includes things like library programing, community theater, live music, workshops, etc. Integrated into the amphitheater itself, the City of Grimes in partnership with the Rotary Club of Grimes is asking for an artist to design a memorial to the different branches of the military. This is not connected to any specific war or conflict but instead, will honor the service of all the people serving in any branch of the military.
